FFBT Charity Tennis Tournament
World-class tennis players serve for a good cause
DFormer Davis Cup tennis player and Frankfurt boy Alexander Waske met amateur tennis player Ingo Söhngen during his serious illness. After a joint visit to Prof. Dr. Kai Uwe Chow im Ambulanten Krebszentrum Schaubstraße, “Alex” quickly realized that he wanted to use his fame and contacts to help people in need after his active career ended. The idea of the Frankfurt Charity Tennis Tournament was born. Since its premiere in 2009, many current and former world-class tennis players have found their way to Frankfurt to play alongside socially committed companies and private individuals for a good cause.
The very first tournament exceeded all expectations, with participants donating the impressive sum of 125.000 €. This sensational result was repeated in 2010 until €150,000 was raised for the first time in 2011. The FFBT e.V., represented by Prof. Dr. Chow and Ingo Söhngen, was delighted to receive the donation cheque from Frankfurt's former Mayor, Dr. Petra Roth, who acted as patron of the tournament.
After the tennis tournament unfortunately had to be canceled in 2012 due to scheduling difficulties, it shone in new splendor in 2013. With the German FED Cup boss Barbara Rittner and former world number five Rainer Schüttler, two professionals took over the patronage of the tournament. The result was more than impressive: illustrious names of current and former tennis professionals found their way to Frankfurt to help free of charge and with full commitment. Due to the increased promotion of the tournament, many spectators found their way to the tennis hall of the FTC Palmengarten Frankfurt. At the gala dinner in the evening, the two new patrons were then able to hand over the donation cheque for 130.000 € to FFBT e.V.
Our very special thanks go to Alex Waske and the organization team for hosting and organizing the tennis tournament, as well as to the tennis stars, who all donated their time and skills free of charge. We would also like to thank all the sponsors and participants who made this great success possible with their donations.
We are already looking forward to the 5th “We're Tennis Family - world-class tennis players serve for a good cause”. You can find all information about the event in our news section.
